Mercedes ML W166 door lights (2011–2015)
The last M-Class, the W166 built from November 2011 to August 2015, can take logo door lights in the front doors when it has the interior light package, code 876. One code rules the car out: 587, the surround lighting that projects the brand logo. Mercedes notes that on the 166 series it comes with the mirror package, code P49.

What your car needs
An ML only qualifies if the front doors already have an exit light. In Mercedes's parts data that comes down to this for the W166:
- 876 (interior light package) on the data card;
- no 587, the surround lighting with logo projection. On this series it is part of the mirror package P49.
Mercedes then lists its own projector (A 247 820 74 03) for the front doors.
These cars are ten years old or more. Lamps get replaced and door panels get swapped, so let the car have the last word: open the front door in the dark and look for the light.

Frequently asked questions
Is my car an ML or a GLE?
Both are the W166. Mercedes lists the M-Class up to 08/2015 and the GLE from 09/2015. The condition for door lights is the same family of codes; this page covers the cars sold as ML.
My ML 63 AMG: same rule?
Mercedes's parts page lists the W166 by series and code and names no AMG exclusion. Check for the lamp in your door to be sure.
The lamp in my door is broken. Can I still fit a projector?
Usually, yes, as long as the plug and the opening are there. The projector replaces the lamp itself. If the cause is the wiring rather than the lamp, the projector will stay dark as well.
