Mercedes-Benz GLS door-entry lights

Mercedes's parts data covers both GLS generations, with a different rule for each. The X166, built from 11/2012 as the GL and from 03/2016 as the GLS, is listed with code 876, the interior light package, and not with code 587, the surround lighting that projects the brand logo; on this series 587 is part of the mirror package P49. For the GLS X167 from 11/2019 Mercedes names no required code. Both are listed for the front doors.

How to order: enter your car model and year when you order. We send the right version for your car.

What your car needs

The different Mercedes-Benz door-entry light housings and connectors side by side
Mercedes uses several versions. Enter your model and year when you order and we send the matching one.

The projector clicks into the existing courtesy lamp at the bottom of your door. If your car has no lamp there from the factory, there is no connector to plug into.

For the X166, GL and GLS alike, Mercedes lists its own projector (A 247 820 74 03) only with code 876, the interior light package, and not with code 587, the surround lighting that projects the brand logo. On the 166 series that 587 is part of the mirror package, code P49. For the X167 Mercedes names no code; its installation kit (A 247 820 87 02) can only be fitted to cars with door exit lighting and is not meant for cars with code 587. The data card with all codes is available from any Mercedes-Benz dealer on the basis of your VIN.

Over the years Mercedes has used several versions of the courtesy lamp. You don't need to work this out yourself: enter your car model and year when you order and we send the right version. How to replace the lamp →

The option codes on this page are the manufacturer's rules for its own original projector.

2 or 4 lights?

Set of 2 = front doors, set of 4 = all four. For both GLS generations Mercedes names the front doors, so the set of 2 is the usual choice.

Do your rear doors light the ground as well? Then a set of 4 fits too; if in doubt, you can always send us a photo.

Frequently asked questions

GL or GLS: which one do I have?
Both are the X166 when built between 2012 and 2019. Mercedes lists it from 11/2012 to 02/2016, when it was sold as the GL, and from 03/2016 to 07/2019 after the facelift, when it was called the GLS. The rule is the same for both: code 876, not with 587.
What is the mirror package P49?
A Mercedes option package. Its parts page for the logo projector states that on the 166 series and the C292 the surround lighting with logo projection, code 587, belongs to it. With that code Mercedes excludes its projector. If you have P49 and are unsure, you can always send us a photo of the lamp under your door.
Does the code 876 rule still apply to the GLS from 2019?
No. For the X167 Mercedes names no required code. It lists the GLS in the same line as the GLE V167: the same adapter and installation kit, not for cars with code 587.
I drive the first GL (X164). What can I do?
The manufacturer data we consulted does not cover it, so look at the car: open a front door after dark and see whether a lamp in the door panel lights the ground. If it does and you are unsure, you can always send us a photo of that lamp.
