Mercedes GLE W166 door lights (2015–2018)
On the first GLE two codes decide, and the second one hides inside a package. Mercedes requires code 876, the interior light package, for its logo projector, and excludes cars with code 587: the surround lighting that projects the brand logo. According to Mercedes, on the 166 series and the GLE Coupé that 587 is part of the mirror package, code P49. So if P49 is on your data card, your car falls under that exclusion.
Which GLE W166 do you have?
-
GLE W166
from 09/2015
The successor to the M-Class on the same basis. Code 876, not with 587 (on this series part of mirror package P49). Front doors.
-
GLE Coupé C292
from 07/2015
Same conditions as the GLE. Recognisable by the sloping roofline.

What your car needs

What the projector needs is the exit light in the front door. Mercedes lists its own projector (A 247 820 74 03) for the W166 and C292 with code 876 and without code 587.
Code 587 is the surround lighting that projects the brand logo. On these two series it is not a stand-alone option: Mercedes states it is part of the mirror package, code P49. So if P49 is on your data card, Mercedes excludes its projector. It gives no reason for that.
A GLE is tall, so you look down on the lamp less easily. Crouch next to the open front door and look at the underside of the door panel.
2 or 4 lights?
Mercedes names the front doors for the GLE and the GLE Coupé: set of 2.
