Wheel center caps for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class: 75 mm, how to check and replace
On an S-Class, details stand out: one faded or missing wheel center cap is enough to spoil the look. On Mercedes-Benz S-Class cars with Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels, a 75 mm cap is common, but the wheel decides, not the model. Here is how to recognise your S-Class and check and replace the caps.
Which S-Class do you have?
- S-Class W223 (from late 2020). Saloon (W223) and long version (V223), with a large portrait-format central screen and flush door handles.
- S-Class W222 (2013–2020). Saloon (W222) and long version (V222), with two wide displays under one glass panel. The coupé and cabriolet of this period are the C217 and A217.
On these generations, 75 mm is a common cap size on Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels. Older S-Class generations such as the W221 (2005–2013) and special wheel designs can differ, so check your own cap.
Typical wheel situations on the S-Class
- Large wheels. Many S-Class cars run on large wheels. The wheel diameter in inches says nothing about the cap: what counts is the opening for the cap.
- Mercedes-Maybach and AMG. Mercedes-Maybach and Mercedes-AMG versions often have their own wheel designs, which may use a different cap. Measure before you order.
- Chauffeur and business use. Cars that are washed often lose their shine on the caps first. A fresh set of four is a quick fix.
Measure before you order
Measure the outer diameter of your current cap across the front, from edge to edge at the widest point. If the cap is missing, measure the round opening in the wheel. 75 mm means this set fits; clearly more or less means it is not the right set for that wheel. The full explanation is in our 75 mm measuring guide.
Fitting in four steps
- Clean the area around the old cap, so you do not drag grit across the paint.
- Lever the old cap out with a plastic pry tool or a flat screwdriver wrapped in tape, working round the edge until the clips let go.
- Check that the opening is clean and dry.
- Line the logo up (for example with the valve) and press the new cap in evenly with your palm until the clips snap in. No tools needed.
Questions about the S-Class
My S-Class has 20-inch wheels. Do I need bigger caps?
No. The cap size does not grow with the wheel diameter. Measure the cap itself; if it is 75 mm across the front, this set fits.
I have a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Will these fit?
We cannot say that in general: Maybach wheels can use their own caps. Measure your cap or send us a photo of the wheel.
Can I damage the wheel when removing the old cap?
Not if you protect it. Use a plastic pry tool or a taped screwdriver and never lever against bare paint.
