Wheel center caps for the Mercedes-Benz GLS: 75 mm, how to check and replace

The Mercedes-Benz GLS is the largest SUV in the range, and on wheels this size a faded or missing center cap stands out. On GLS models with Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels a 75 mm cap is common, but the wheel decides, not the model. Here is how to recognise your GLS and check and replace the caps.

Which GLS do you have?

  • GLS X167 (from late 2019). The current GLS, with two wide screens under one glass panel. Built alongside the GLE V167.
  • GLS X166 (2016–2019). The facelifted GL, renamed GLS. Before that, the same body was sold as the GL X166 (2012–2016).

On these generations, 75 mm is a common cap size on Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels. Special wheel designs can differ, so check your own cap.

Typical wheel situations on the GLS

  • Very large wheels. The GLS often runs on wheels of 20 inches or more. The wheel diameter does not set the cap size; the opening for the cap does.
  • Mercedes-Maybach GLS and Mercedes-AMG GLS. These versions have their own wheel designs, which may use a different cap. Measure before you order.
  • Smaller winter wheels. Many owners switch to a smaller winter wheel. Genuine Mercedes-Benz winter alloys can take this cap; aftermarket winter wheels usually have their own caps.

Measure before you order

Measure the outer diameter of your current cap across the front, from edge to edge at the widest point. If the cap is missing, measure the round opening in the wheel. 75 mm means this set fits; clearly more or less means it is not the right set for that wheel. The full explanation is in our 75 mm measuring guide.

Fitting in four steps

  1. Clean the area around the old cap, so you do not drag grit across the paint.
  2. Lever the old cap out with a plastic pry tool or a flat screwdriver wrapped in tape, working round the edge until the clips let go.
  3. Check that the opening is clean and dry.
  4. Line the logo up (for example with the valve) and press the new cap in evenly with your palm until the clips snap in. No tools needed.

Questions about the GLS

My GLS has 22-inch wheels. Do I need bigger caps?
No. The cap size does not grow with the wheel. If your current cap measures 75 mm across the front, this set fits.

I have the older GL. Will these fit?
Possibly, but we do not assume it from the model. Measure your cap, or send us a photo of the wheel.

I have a Mercedes-Maybach GLS. Will these fit?
We cannot say that in general: Maybach wheels can use their own caps. Measure first or send us a photo.

Ordering

When you order, enter your car model and year in the order field; we check it and send the right item. If in doubt, send us a photo of your wheel and we will help you check.
