Wheel center caps for the Mercedes-Benz GLE: 75 mm, how to check and replace
On a big SUV like the Mercedes-Benz GLE the wheels are a large part of the look, so a faded or missing center cap shows. On GLE models with Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels a 75 mm cap is common, but the wheel decides, not the model. Here is how to recognise your GLE and check and replace the caps.
Which GLE do you have?
- GLE V167 (from 2019). The second GLE, with two wide screens under one glass panel. Also available as a GLE Coupé (C167).
- GLE W166 (2015–2018). The first GLE, with a freestanding screen on the dashboard. It is the renamed and updated M-Class: the ML W166 was built from 2011 to 2015.
On these generations, 75 mm is a common cap size on Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels. Special wheel designs can differ, so check your own cap.
Typical wheel situations on the GLE
- Large wheels. Many GLEs run on 20-inch wheels or larger, often AMG designs. The wheel diameter does not set the cap size; the opening for the cap does.
- Smaller winter wheels. Owners of large SUVs often switch to a smaller, cheaper winter wheel. If it is a genuine Mercedes-Benz alloy, measure its cap too. Aftermarket winter wheels usually have their own caps.
- Mercedes-AMG GLE. The AMG versions have their own wheel designs, which may use a different cap. Measure before you order.
Measure before you order
Measure the outer diameter of your current cap across the front, from edge to edge at the widest point. If the cap is missing, measure the round opening in the wheel. 75 mm means this set fits; clearly more or less means it is not the right set for that wheel. The full explanation is in our 75 mm measuring guide.
Fitting in four steps
- Clean the area around the old cap, so you do not drag grit across the paint.
- Lever the old cap out with a plastic pry tool or a flat screwdriver wrapped in tape, working round the edge until the clips let go.
- Check that the opening is clean and dry.
- Line the logo up (for example with the valve) and press the new cap in evenly with your palm until the clips snap in. No tools needed.
Questions about the GLE
My GLE has 20-inch AMG wheels. Do I need bigger caps?
No. The cap size does not grow with the wheel. Many AMG wheels use a 75 mm cap; if yours measures 75 mm across the front, this set fits.
I have the older ML W166. Will these fit?
Possibly, but we do not assume it from the model. Measure your cap: 75 mm means this set fits.
Is the GLE Coupé different?
Not in principle. The body style does not decide the cap size; the wheel does.
