Wireless CarPlay for DS: make your factory CarPlay wireless
With a wireless adapter you get into your DS, start the car and drive off: CarPlay or Android Auto starts by itself and your phone stays in your pocket or bag. There is one condition: your DS already has wired Apple CarPlay or Android Auto from the factory. You can check that in one minute below.

1. What the adapter does in your DS
- Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto in one adapter: iPhone and Android.
- Plugs into the existing USB port your DS uses for CarPlay or Android Auto.
- Pair once, then the phone connects by itself.
- No installation, no tools: nothing changes in the car.
- Your DS's own screen and controls keep working: touchscreen, steering-wheel buttons, speakers and microphone.
2. Does your DS qualify? The 1-minute test
- Start the car and wait until the touchscreen is fully on.
- Connect your phone to a USB port with a cable: an iPhone for CarPlay, an Android phone for Android Auto.
- CarPlay or Android Auto appears: your DS has the connection the adapter needs. The adapter goes into exactly that USB port.
- Nothing appears: try the other USB ports and a good cable, because some ports only charge. If nothing appears on any port, your DS most likely has no CarPlay or Android Auto, and the adapter will not add it.
Passed the test? Then your DS has what the adapter needs. Order the adapter and enter your DS model and year in the order field.
3. Which DS models usually have wired CarPlay
DS offered Apple CarPlay early through Mirror Screen, and since the DS Iris System many newer models connect without a cable. Roughly:
- DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio (facelift 2016) with the 7-inch touchscreen: Mirror Screen with Apple CarPlay, or MirrorLink for Android phones. The sources mention Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink here, not Android Auto.
- DS 7 Crossback with the 8- or 12-inch touchscreen: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with a cable.
- DS 3 Crossback (2019–2022): Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, with a cable.
According to Mac4ever, wireless CarPlay only arrived at DS with the DS 4 of 2021 and its DS Iris System. A DS with CarPlay from before then therefore usually has wired CarPlay. A DS without CarPlay or Android Auto from the factory is not suitable: the adapter does not add it. The cable test is decisive.
Already wireless? Then you do not need the adapter. With the DS Iris System, CarPlay connects without a cable from the factory: in the DS 4 (from 2021), the updated DS 7 (from 2022), the updated DS 3 with the 10.3-inch screen (from 2023) and the DS 9 from model year 2023. If your phone already connects to your DS without a cable, the adapter adds nothing.
4. Set it up in your DS in 3 steps
- Plug in: start the car, unplug the phone cable and plug the adapter into the USB port that worked in the test.
- Pair once: switch on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your phone, choose the adapter in the Bluetooth list (not the car) and follow the manual.
- Confirm: accept the CarPlay or Android Auto prompt on your phone. After that, the phone should connect by itself every time you get in.
5. Questions from DS drivers
- Does it work with DS Mirror Screen? Yes, if Mirror Screen shows Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with a cable. CarPlay or Android Auto then still runs on your DS's own screen.
- My DS 3 offers MirrorLink for Android, not Android Auto. Does the adapter help? Not with Android: the adapter works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, not with MirrorLink. With an iPhone via Apple CarPlay, it does work.
- I have a newer DS with the DS Iris System. Do I need the adapter? Usually not: in the DS 4 (from 2021), the updated DS 7 (from 2022), the DS 3 (from 2023) and the DS 9 (from model year 2023), CarPlay already connects without a cable. Does your phone only connect with a cable? Then do the cable test; if CarPlay or Android Auto appears, the adapter can make that connection wireless.
- Will the steering-wheel buttons and Siri or Google Assistant still work? Yes. If the voice button starts Siri or the Google Assistant with the cable, it does the same with the adapter. Calls use the car's speakers and microphone.
- Lag and battery? Wireless can respond slightly slower than a cable, mostly with audio, such as a short delay when you skip a track. Your phone no longer charges via the USB port and uses more battery, so use a charger on long drives.
