AMG emblem in gloss black or chrome: which suits your Mercedes?
Our AMG rear emblem comes in gloss black and in chrome. Both have the same 3D lettering, the same 19 × 2 cm size and the same high-gloss finish; only the colour differs. Which one looks best depends mainly on your paint colour and on the trim around your car. Here is how to choose.

1. Start with your trim: chrome or black?
Look at the details on your car: the window surrounds, the grille, the mirror housings, the trim strip on the rear bumper and the other badges. If they are chrome, a chrome AMG emblem continues that look. If they are black, gloss black fits in better.
2. Night Package: go for black
Many Mercedes models are available with a Night Package, which replaces chrome or matt black trim with gloss black. Depending on the model and year, Mercedes dealers list items such as a gloss black grille insert, gloss black trim elements on the front and rear bumpers, gloss black window surrounds and mirror housings, and darker tinted rear windows. If your car has the Night Package, a gloss black emblem is the natural match. The dealer descriptions we checked do not say that the package changes the badges themselves, so look at the badges on your own car too.
3. Match the other badges
Keeping all badges on the rear in one colour usually looks the most consistent. With a chrome model designation and a chrome star, a black AMG emblem will stand out from them. That can be a deliberate look; if it is not what you want, pick the same colour as the rest. Have you already blacked out the star or model badge? Then go for black.
4. By paint colour
- White: gloss black gives a strong contrast and a sporty look; chrome is subtle and classic.
- Silver and light grey: chrome blends in with the paint; gloss black stands out clearly.
- Dark grey: both work; chrome catches the light, black looks understated.
- Black: chrome stands out; gloss black gives an almost hidden, stealth look.
- Blue, red and other colours: follow your trim: chrome trim, chrome emblem; black trim, black emblem.
5. Try it before you order
- Take a photo of the rear of your car in daylight and compare it with the product photos of both colours.
- Mark a 19 × 2 cm strip with masking tape where the emblem will go and look at it from a few metres behind the car.
- Photograph the rear from a slight angle as well as straight on. Chrome reflects its surroundings, so it can look lighter or darker depending on the light.
