Wireless CarPlay for the Toyota Yaris: make factory CarPlay wireless

Get in, drive off and leave your phone in your pocket: with our adapter, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto starts on your Toyota Yaris's screen by itself, without a cable. There is one condition: your Toyota must already have wired CarPlay or Android Auto from the factory. The adapter makes that connection wireless; it does not add CarPlay or Android Auto to a car that does not have it.

  • Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto in one adapter, for iPhone and Android.
  • Plugs into the existing USB port your Toyota uses for CarPlay or Android Auto.
  • Pair once; after that your phone connects by itself when Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on.
  • No installation, no tools: nothing on the car is changed.
  • Uses your Toyota's own screen and controls, including the voice button on the steering wheel.

1. Does your Yaris qualify? The 1-minute test

  1. Switch on the multimedia system and connect your iPhone or Android phone with a USB cable.
  2. Use the USB data port, as Toyota calls it. Many Toyotas have several USB ports and some only charge, so if nothing happens, try another port and a good cable.
  3. With an iPhone, check that CarPlay is switched on in the car. Toyota describes this setting under Menu > Setup > General.

CarPlay or Android Auto appears on the screen? Then your Toyota qualifies, and the adapter goes into exactly that port. Nothing appears? Then your Toyota most likely has no CarPlay or Android Auto, and the adapter will not change that. Test with the system you will actually use: an iPhone for CarPlay, an Android phone for Android Auto.

Passed the test? Order the adapter and enter your Toyota's model and year in the order field.

2. Which Yaris generations have wired CarPlay

Up to the 2024 update, CarPlay and Android Auto in the Yaris usually run on the Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system, by USB cable: in 2020 Toyota stated that CarPlay in its models only worked via a cable, with the GR Supra as the exception. The newer Toyota Smart Connect system already connects wirelessly.

  • Yaris 3 / XP130 (2011 to about mid-2019): usually no CarPlay or Android Auto from the factory. According to Toyota UK, the Touch 2 system with a 7-inch screen introduced with the 2014 update was MirrorLink-ready, without CarPlay. The adapter cannot help here.
  • Yaris 3 / XP130, last model years (about mid-2019 to 2020): in several European countries CarPlay and Android Auto were added to the 7-inch touchscreen. In Germany, for example, they were standard on Style Selection and GR Sport and an option on the Y20 Club; in Spain they were announced for the whole range. In the UK, however, Toyota said the Y20 had no Android Auto. If CarPlay or Android Auto appears with a cable, the adapter can make it wireless.
  • Yaris 4 / XP210, including the Yaris Hybrid (2020 to 2024): every version has Toyota Touch 2, in the UK with a 7-inch screen on the Icon grade and an 8-inch screen on the others. According to Toyota UK, CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on this generation. They work by cable, so this Yaris is a typical candidate for the adapter.
  • Yaris Cross (2021 to 2024): the Yaris Cross was the first Toyota with Smart Connect. The Icon and Design grades usually have the 8-inch Touch 2 with wired CarPlay, so the adapter helps there. The higher grades usually have the 9-inch Smart Connect with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto; some option packs swap it for Touch 2.
  • Yaris and Yaris Cross after the 2024 update: Toyota Smart Connect with a 9- or 10.5-inch screen depending on grade, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If your phone already connects without a cable, you do not need the adapter, for CarPlay or for Android Auto.

Equipment differs by country, grade and option pack, so the cable test is decisive.

3. Set it up in your Yaris in 3 steps

  1. Plug in: start the car, wait until the multimedia system is fully on and plug the adapter into the USB data port that worked in the test.
  2. Pair: switch on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your phone and pair it with the adapter (not with the car), following the manual.
  3. Confirm: accept the CarPlay or Android Auto prompt on your phone and on the Toyota screen. From then on, it connects by itself when you get in.

4. Frequently asked questions about the Yaris

  • Does it work with Toyota Touch 2 in my Yaris? Yes, as long as CarPlay or Android Auto appears there with a cable. That is usually the case on the Yaris from 2020 to 2024 and on a Yaris Cross with the 8-inch Touch 2. Older Touch 2 versions without CarPlay or Android Auto are not suitable.
  • My Yaris or Yaris Cross has Toyota Smart Connect. Do I need the adapter? Usually not. Toyota offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with Smart Connect: on the Yaris Cross from 2021 depending on grade, and on the Yaris and Yaris Cross after the 2024 update. First check whether your phone already connects without a cable.
  • Which USB port do I use in the Yaris? The USB data port where CarPlay or Android Auto appeared in the cable test. Some ports only charge, so test first and then plug the adapter into the port that worked.
  • My Yaris is from before mid-2019. Will the adapter work? Usually not, because the Yaris 3 with the earlier Touch 2 has no CarPlay or Android Auto from the factory, and the adapter cannot add it. On the last Yaris 3 models the equipment differs by country, so do the cable test if you are not sure.
  • Will the steering-wheel buttons and Siri or Google Assistant still work? Yes. The adapter only replaces the cable: the screen, steering-wheel controls, voice button, speakers and microphone work as before.
  • Is there lag, and what about my battery? A wireless connection can respond slightly slower than a cable, mostly noticeable as a short delay when you skip a track. Your phone no longer charges through the USB port and uses more battery, so use a charger or wireless charging pad on long drives.
  • Does Android Auto work wirelessly with every phone? Google lists a phone with Android 11 or later and 5 GHz Wi-Fi for wireless Android Auto.
